Welcome to the daily WHL playoff recap focusing on the Eastern Conference. Here is a look back at the day that was:

Red Deer Rebels (4) vs Edmonton Oil Kings (5) (OT)

For the first time in the second round, we had an overtime game.

The Oil Kings got off to a quick start when Luke Prokop scored at 1:55, before the Rebels finally scored in this series. Liam Keeler tied the game at 1-1 at 9:55. That ended Sebastian Cossa’s shut out streak at 173:28 minutes. The last goal Cossa allowed was when Justin Hall scored for the Lethbridge Hurricanes at 15:17 of the third period of Game Four in the first round.

Dylan Guenther and Carter Souch gave the Oil Kings a two goal lead in the second before Kalan Lind scored late to make it 3-2 after two. In the third, Justin Sourdif scored a shorthanded goal to restore the Oil Kings two goal lead, before the Rebels fought back to force overtime. Arshdeep Bains and Jhett Larson scored 36 seconds apart to to the game at 4-4. Jake Neighbours gave the Oil Kings the win in overtime at 7:17 to seal the 3-0 lead. The Oil Kings are now 7-0 in these playoffs.

The Oil Kings outshot the Rebels 52-22. Included a combined total of 42-15 between the 2nd period, 3rd period, and overtime. The Rebels started Connor Ungar instead of Chase Coward. Ungar was fantastic in making 47 saves. Sebastian Cossa made 18 saves and also added an assist on the overtime goal. Offensively, Prokop and Souch led the way for the Oil Kings with a goal and an assist. For the Rebels Bains, Lind had a goal and an assist. Ben King chipped in with two assists.
